Jamaican Football agent Craig Butler has confirmed that the English Football Association has reached out to him with regards to Leon Bailey and Kyle Butler representing the English national team in the near future. Butler says discussions will continue with the English FA this week as he evaluates the choices.
“Yes the English FA has reached out to us; spoken to them by phone; the offer is for both players and with things that come along with playing for England: endorsement contracts, salaries and things like that we’ve been discussing and we will further discuss later this week when we meet. It is something that you cannot not consider; you have to look at the options,” said Butler.
Despite the interest from England, Butler believes that if he is given an opportunity to establish a football program, then his players would deck out for the Reggae Boyz.
“The reality for me is that Jamaica has the chance to get the players and to establish a national football culture and if they allow us to help with that then we would prefer to play for Jamaica,” noted Butler. Bailey currently plies his trade for German Bundesleaga side Bayer Leverkusen while Kyle plays in the Maltese League.
