As sporting associations continue to grapple with the Covid 19 crisis, the starting time frame and structure for the qualification of the 2022 World Cup continues to be a sticking point for CONCACAF. Director of Caribbean Football at CONCACAF, Horace Reid says there's no need to make hasty decisions at this stage, even as CONCACAF president Victor Montagliani suggested that there might be a reshaping of the region's 2022 World Cup qualifying format.

Under current guidelines, the six regional teams ranked highest by FIFA are slated to play one another home and away for a total of 10 matches apiece between this September and June 2021. Three would earn automatic berths to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and a fourth would enter a playoff against the winner of a second-tier regional competition in fall 2021.

However, Reid says too many things are at stake to restart in a rush especially with the dynamics of the coronavirus. The former JFF General Secretary also commended the effort of the current administration to restructure their statues following a meeting with FIFA.

Reid, who was speaking on Hitz 92 FMs Sports Grill with Simon Crosskill, has been Director of Caribbean Football in CONCACAF since 2017.
