Craig Butler responds to allegations of physical abuse by his son Kyle

Craig Butler has labelled as "unfounded", allegations of physical abuse as raised by his son, national Under-23 footballer, Kyle Butler on the evening of November 30.

Responding via a press release issued by his attorney Christopher Townsend on Tuesday night, the elder Butler, who is the owner and president of the Phoenix Football Academy, stated "categorically" that: "I have not been abusive to my son on that date or any other date."

The senior Butler, who said that his heart goes out to his son as he battles with some major issues, continued: "I'm cognizant of the many issues Kyle has gotten himself in and things that my profession and principles would never allow me to be a part of.

This has created a major problem in our relationship, as I have stated that this is not the path any parent would hope for their child.

Butler, who also guided Reggae Boy Leon Bailey to stardom, asked via the statement, that: "The public allows his family the privacy to work through this matter."

Over the last 48 hours, Kyle has posted photographs on his verified twitter account showing bruises and cuts, citing physical and mental abuse.

The 22 year old midfielder showed what appeared to be a stab wound, claiming he was attacked at a football field in Mona.

He also posted more claims, showing cuts to his lip and what appeared to be a wound inflicted by a hot iron. Kyle has since given a radio interview, alleging the injuries were inflicted by his father. Below is the full text of Craig Butler's press release.

Press release - Craig Butler, re: Kyle Butler abuse allegations.

I'm responding in this way of my son Kyle Butler’s allegations of my being physically abusive on the evening of November 30, 2020. My heart goes out to my son as he battles with some major issues, and now these unfounded allegations.

Let me categorically state that I have not been abusive to my son on that date or any other date. I have encouraged him and helped him to achieve his full potential. I have worked hard to create opportunities for my son of which he enjoyed for years. There was no complaints then.

I'm cognizant of the many issues Kyle has gotten himself in and things that my profession and principles would never allow me to be a part of.  This has created a major problem in our relationship, as I have stated that this is not the path any parent would hope for their child.

I am hoping that he will find his way and recognize that his family loves him and want only what is best for him. I hope my son will get the chance to show how talented he is and believe in himself as I have always believed in him.  I only ask that the public allows us the privacy to work through this matter.
