Centro silver-medalist Jamaica suffered a 72-62 defeat by the Dominican Republic in their second preliminary round game of the women's basketball competition, at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Puerto Rico.
Simone Edwards and Vanessa Gidden each scored 19 points for Jamaica, with Nicole Louden supporting with 17.
Edwards also had 15 points for the Jamaicans who must now beat Mexico on Wednesday to advance to the medal round.
Having defeated the Dominican Republic en route to the Centro Championship final a week ago, Coach Tim Eatmon tried to explain the difference between those games.
“Last week we shot 55% from the floor and in this game we shot 38% from the floor so the biggest difference in the game was a 17% difference in our shooting from one game to the next…our kids are tired and their legs are a little sore,” Coach Eatmon said.
Jamaica defeated Guatemala 63-56 in their opening game on Sunday.
