FBI anti-doping case could implicate more Jamaicans

Report by RJRGLEANER Communications Group Sports Reporter Jordan Forte

Former Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission (JADCO) Executive Director Renee Ann Shirley says the implications of an ongoing FBI case into a doping conspiracy fraud stretch further than most Jamaicans have realized.

Jamaican world indoor relay silver medallist Dewayne Barrett and former Jamaican-born Liberian sprinter O'neil Wright were recently charged as part of a widening case alleging a conspiracy to supply banned performance-enhancing drugs to athletes preparing for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

The charges are connected to the case involving American naturopathic therapist Eric Lira who worked with Nigerian sprinter Blessing Okagbare.

The revelations were made after an unsealed indictment recently in the Southern District of New York.
