Former Reggae Boy Michael Johnson has been announced as head coach of the Guyanese national football team until the summer of 2019. The 44 year old Johnson who played for Jamaica in Gold Cup tournaments in 2000 and 2003, will take charge of Guyana for the upcoming CONCACAF League of Nations tournament.
The Guyana Football Federation has given Johnson a goal to help the team qualify for the 2019 edition of the Gold Cup. Johnson's only previous managerial experience came in 2009 when he was the caretaker manager for Notts County and led the team to promotion to League One. Guyana has never qualified for the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
