Fraser Pryce takes two Diamond League trophies

Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce became the third athlete and first Jamaican to secure two Diamond League trophies in one season when the IAAF 14 meet series concluded in Brussels on Friday.

She sped to a meet record of 10.72s to seal the women’s 100m Diamond League trophy at the meet. Only Americans Allyson Felix who won the 200meters and 400meters double in 2010 and Carmelita Jeter who secured the 100meters and 200meters double in 2011 had previously achieved the double. 

Having won the 200meters race last week, and the diamond race, the world sprint double champion added the 100m trophy.

Compatriots Kerron Stewart who was 2nd in the diamond race, and the improving Carrie Russell placed fourth and third respectively. Russell was edged out of the second spot by Anderson of the United States.

Bolt

Usain Bolt missed the chance to shave some time off his meet record of 9.76 seconds, by clocking an easy 9.80s to win the men’s 100m.

Nesta Carter, his fellow Jamaican and World Championship bronze medalist, finished third with 9.94s behind American Mike Rodgers and ahead of American Justin Gatlin. Kemar Bailey-Cole managed to secure fifth place in the event.

Weir

Warren Weir, World Championship silver medalist, battled fellow Jamaican Nickel Ashmeade in the 200 meters. Weir clocked 19.87s to claim the victory ahead of coutryman Ashemade’s. Weir secured the Diamond Trophy with the win.

World Championship finalists Novlene Williams-Mills and Stephanie McPherson finished outside of the top three spots in the women's 400 meters. Natasha Hasting and Amantle Montsho battled to the line, Hastings edging out Montsho.

Kimberly Williams closed the Diamond League series with a second place finish in the women's triple jump, and an overall third placing in the diamond race.
