Sidelined West Indies batsman Chris Gayle says he wants to achieve a legendary status should he make a return to international cricket and in particular test cricket.
With two triple centuries 317 against South Africa and 333 against Sri Lanka among his major batting achievements, Gayle says he has his eyes set on breaking a few more records.
"I'll definitely give it one more try, to try and reach the 400 mark. I think I still have the ability to get past that. Now I’ve gained the experience to know what to do if I actually reach that stage again.
"But there’s still a lot to achieve … a few more ODI (one day international) centuries. Right now I’m tied with Brian Lara as the most century maker for the West Indies, at 19, so to get one more would be another record, another achievement for me. (I also) want to try and get 10,000 test and ODI runs, so there’s still a lot (for me) to achieve," Gayle said.
Looking forward to his first ICC Champions League
In noting that he will be playing in a few twenty/20 matches while he awaits his return to the West Indies team, Gayle explained that he is particularly looking forward to next month's International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions League.
"(It will be) my first time in the Champions League, so I’m definitely looking forward to it because it has been there for quite some time now and I’ve never been lucky (enough) to be part of a winning team to be part of the Champions League. This is the first time, so I’m definitely looking forward to it," he said.
Gayle, who has not played for the West Indies since the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup in South Asia in March, will play for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Champions League
He is currently awaiting another meeting with the West Indies Cricket Board to resolve issues surrounding his criticism of the board, selectors and coach Ottis Gibson in a radio interview in Jamaica earlier this year.
