The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has announced that the 2020 edition of the Diamond League will be reduced from 14 meets to 12. Next year, the longest distance track race that will be staged will be the 3,000m. This means that each Diamond League meet will be cut from 2 hours to 90 minutes.
President of the IAAF Sebastian Coe says these changes are being made to hopefully draw more crowds and bring excitement to the sport of athletics.
