Jamaican athletes are among those being urged by president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach to continue their preparations for the Olympics this year. The Tokyo Games in the summer have come into question due to the spread of the Covid 19 coronavirus globally.

Japan's Olympic Minister Seiko Hashimoto admitted that the Games could be pushed to later in the year if the outbreak gets worse. However, in an emergency press conference on Tuesday, the IOC president said he expected the Games to continue as planned.

“The IOC remains fully committed to the success of the Olympics Games in Tokyo 2020. There is a task force in place since mid February. I would like to encourage all the athletes to continue their preparation for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 with great confidence and full steam” said Bach.

Jamaica's first ever World Championship discus throw silver medallist Fedrick Dacres on Sunday said he's continuing his preparations for this summer's event despite fears of the outbreak. The Games are due to be held from July 24 to August 9.
