Competitions Officer at the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA), Ewan Scott says the governing body is currently in the process of investigating an incident that took place on Saturday where a referee was allegedly assaulted following the final whistle in a Zone 'J' game in the ISSA DaCosta Cup at McGrath High.
Video footage of the incident started surfacing on Saturday afternoon from the match between zone leaders Dinthill Technical and second place McGrath High which ended in a 1-1 draw.
The situation escalated to the point where the referee was taken from the playing area and placed in a classroom on the school compound along with his two assistant referees.
Radio Jamaica Sports understands that persons including players converged on the classroom barricading the referees inside for close to an hour.
It’s further understood that police officers were called in to escort the officials from the school’s compound.
Speaking to Radio Jamaica Sports, Scott said he’s aware of the incident but could not state whether or not the player or players in question will be punished or the extent of the punishment they could face.
