Jamaica's Ricardo Planter faces an uphill task of maintaining the country's lead over Canada in the Wray & Nephew Contender Series for the junior middleweight title. Planter will take on Phil ‘The Upsetter’ Rose on Wednesday night at the Chinese Benevolent Association headquarters.
It won't be an easier task for Planter who has only made it to the quarter final round once from three attempts in the series.
The Jamaican will have to display his ‘A’ game against Rose who created the biggest upset in recent times in Canada, having knocked out two time Olympian Adam Trupish in the seventh round in 2014.
Rose won his last fight in November of last year when he knocked out Ryan Young in their ten round contest to move his record to 6 wins with four coming via the TKO route and four losses.
The 34 year old who tipped the scale at 153 pounds, the same as planter, is promising an entertaining performance.
“I’m gonna throw my combinations and if an opportunity comes I’ll take it; I don’t want to go the distance so I want to get in there and deal with it right away,” said Rose.
Planter whose record stands at 6 wins, 8 losses and 2 drawn results knows he will be in for a fight. “I know it’s going to be a tough fight because he has some big wins, so I am prepared for a tough fight,” noted Planter. TVJ will have live coverage starting at 9:30 pm.
