JA basketballers step it up at Centro Championships

Although losing top-shooter Roy Hibbert to injury, Jamaica's men dominated British Virgin Islands 71-56 to stay in contention at the Centro Basketball Championships in the Dominican Republic.

Akeem Scott stepped up with 18 points and Andre Smith 15, as Jamaica joined the US Virgin Islands who they play Friday on three points.

Hibbert had returned to Orlando for an MRI on his injured knee which could end his participation in the tournament.

The Indiana Pacers centre scored a game high 19 points in Jamaica's opening 68-62 loss to hosts Dominican Republic.
