JAAA considers reinforcement for women's sprint relay squad

Voice of Jamaica's track and field team manager Ludlow Watts

On the back of concerns around the women's 4x100m relay team shared by veteran coach Stephen Francis on Tuesday, Radio Jamaica Sports understands that the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) could be forced to call in their alternate participant (AP).

There has been controversy surrounding athletes listed as alternate participants who have not been able to access the Athletes’ Village in Paris.

These athletes including Kemba Nelson who was listed as an AP  for the women's 4x100m relay, were told by the JAAA that they would not cover the cost of travel and accommodation unless they are needed.

On Tuesday, Francis blasted the Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA) and the JAAA for not accommodating the athletes in Francis and warned that the country could be in danger of not being able to field a team due to a lack of numbers.

Speaking with Radio Jamaica Sports, manager for the athletics team, Ludlow Watts says a decision of the AP athletes could coming in the next 24 hours.
