JAAA has until January to convince IAAF

The Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) has until January to try and convince athletics world governing body the IAAF that Jamaica can host the 2016 World Junior Championships. The IAAF has officially opened bidding to find alternative hosts, following Russia's suspension from international athletics competition.

Countries have until Monday to register their interest in hosting the event. The IAAF will then vote on which city will host the championship on January 7. Earlier this week, JAAA President Dr warren Blake said they had formally written to the IAAF, expressing an interest in hosting the July 19-24 event.

If successful, it would be the second time Jamaica would be hosting the IAAF World Juniors, having staged the 2002 championship in Kingston.
