Jamaica scores third straight win in Davis Cup competition

Jamaica's tennis team secured their third consecutive win in the 2019 America Zone 3 Davis Cup in Costa Rica after a 2-1 victory over Bermuda on Wednesday. Bermuda took the lead in the first rubber as Richard Mallory defeated Jamaica's Jacob Bicknell 6-7, 6-3, 7-6. In the second match, Randy Phillips got the better of Tariq Simons 6-2, 6-2.

With this win, Phillips tied the record for the most wins for a Jamaican in the Davis Cup with 25. He levelled the record set by former national player Ryan Russell. In the doubles, Phillips and Dominic Pagon teamed up to beat Gavin Manders and Neal Towlson 6-1, 6-3. With this result, Pagon now has the record for the most doubles wins for a Jamaican, which is 12. The Jamaicans will now be searching for their fourth win of the tournament as they play Caribbean neighbours Cuba on Thursday.
