Jamaican basketball players to try for NBA draft

Jamaica may see it is first player since Andrew Kennedy in 1987 drafted into the NBA on Thursday evening.

Centers Samardo Samuels and Jerome Jordan are among the many hopefuls vying for spots in the world's most popular basketball league.

Jerome bears the surname of arguably the greatest basketball player in the modern era.

The Jamaica College past student gained entry to an American college through an annual summer camp, alongside Samuels, who attended Muschette in Trelawny.

Both are projected as late first round to early second round picks.

Samuels is rated as highly as 35th in mock drafts, and according to a source could go to the Washington Wizards where he worked out this week.

Jordan's highest rating is 36th, with the Detroit Pistons said to be among his suitors.

But while Jordan who did four years of college is said to be "NBA ready", there are concerns over Samuels who surprisingly entered the draft, against the advice of coaches who think he stands a better chance in the future.
