The Anthony "Baba" Nunes-trained even money favourite Linguist under former champion jockey Dick Cardenas, scored a battling victory in Saturday's 86th running of the Jamaica Oaks over 10 furlongs at Caymanas Park, the season's third classic.
The 3 year old bay filly sat off the pace before making a serious move 4 furlongs out and taking command approaching the final bend.
Linguist covered the distance in 2:13.3, winning the $3.75 million event under a brilliant ride from Cardenas to close out a double for Nunes on the programme.
Meanwhile, trainer Ryan Darby achieved a notable milestone by recording career win number 500 courtesy of the 6-5 second choice All Together who landed race 5 under apprentice Demar Williams over 5 and a half furlongs.
Champion jockey Raddesh the “Sneaky Fox” Roman booted home a three-timer among his peers.
Racing continues with an 11-race Independence Day card on Wednesday, featuring the 105th running of the Jamaica Derby, the season's 4th classic over 12 furlongs for a purse of $7.5 million.
