National players exit at quarter final stage of international badminton tourney

National badminton players Samuel Ricketts and Katherine Wynter both had quarter-final finishes at the International Mexicano Badminton Tournament which ended on Sunday. Ricketts lost in his quarter-final matchup 17-21, 21-23 to Guatemalan Anibal Marroquin, having secured 21-16, 21-8, and 21-19, 21-8 wins in his first two encounters. 

Wynter had to dig deep on two occasions to get by her rivals on reaching the quarter-finals. She first surged by American Ariel Lee 18-21, 21-15, 21-9 and Mexican De La Torre Martinez 14-21, 21-14, 21-19. Wynter then found the going tough against Canadian Daniela Macias going down 13-21, 21-6. Ricketts and Wynter also teamed up to get to the quarter-finals of the mixed doubles.

The next major local tournament will be the All-Jamaica Championships set for October 21-22
and 28-29.
