Nigerian 100m female winner in drug scandal

Nigeria's 100 metre champion Osayemi Oludamola became the first athlete at the Commonwealth Games to fail a drugs test.

Jamaica's Mike Fennell, President of the Commonwealth Games Federation, made the announcement.

"We have had a positive result in relation to Osayemi Oludamola of Nigeria and she has been notified in accordance with the anti-doping standards that apply to these games. She has requested the testing of (her) B-sample which will be done today (Monday) and a hearing will be held later today in accordance with the anti-doping standards," Fennell said.

Oludamola showed traces of the banned substance methyl-hexanamine, which was recently added to the World Anti-Doping Agency's prohibited list.

She was named champion last Thursday after Australia's Sally Pearson was controversially disqualified for false starting.

The current silver medalist is Natasha Myers of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, but no decision has been made on the medals pending the hearing.
