'Nyquist' favourite for Kentucky Derby

The first jewel in the American Triple Crown Series, will be contested on Saturday when 22 runners go to the start in the $2 million Kentucky Derby over 10 furlongs at Churchill Downs in New York.

Florida Derby winner ‘Nyquist’ who is unbeaten in seven races so far, is the 3-1 morning line favourite with jockey Mario Gutierrez riding for trainer Doug O'Neil.

If ‘Nyquist’ wins on Saturday, he'll become the first undefeated horse since ‘Seattle Slew’ in 1977 to win the Kentucky Derby.

Santa Anita Derby winner ‘Exaggerator’ to be ridden by Kent Desormeaux, is the 8-1 second choice in the morning line odds, while ‘Mohaymen’ who was unbeaten before having to settle for fourth behind ‘Nyquist’ in the Florida Derby just over a month ago, is next at 10-1.

Meanwhile, a small field of 10 will go to the post in Saturday's feature at Caymanas Park, the 3 year old and up Overnight Allowance contest for ‘Ren Gonzalves Memorial Cup’ over 10 furlongs.

Harry Parsard's late running gelding ‘Original Train’  who loves going around two turns, and to be partnered by Robert Halledeen, is the 8-5 morning line favourite.

First post is 12:30 pm and all 10 races will be telecast live on TVJ Sports Network.
