Olympic 100m silver medalist Sherone Simpson produced a meet record to lead a number of the nation's leading athletes who turned in solid performances at the Queens/Grace Jackson invitational meet at the National Stadium on Saturday (January 28)
Once again opening her season over 400meters, Sherone Simpson produced a personal best and meet record to be the overall winner of the women's 400 meters.
She clocked 51.42 seconds to win ahead of World Championship 200m finalist Anneisha Mclaughlin who also produced a personal best 51.89. 400 hurdler Nickiesha Wilson was third.
Olympic 100m champion Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce also opened her season over 400 meters and clocked 55.72 to win her heat and place fourth overall.
Reigning two time World Junior 100m champion Dexter Lee also opened his season, and posted a personal best 49.30 for 3rd in his heat
The overall event was won by Allodin Fothergill in 47secs flat.
World and Olympic sprint relay gold medalist Michael Frater opened his season over 200m clocking 21.34 for 3rd in his heat.
The race was won by national quartermiler Edino Steele in 21.23.
In spite of the huge turnout at the meet, founder and meet director Olive McNaughton says they will be looking to reduce the numbers next year.
