Jamaica's international chess master Jomo Pitterson has described his nomination for the Courtney Walsh Award for Excellence as an honour to him and his sport.
Pitterson has been nominated alongside two-time Olympic champion Veronica Campbell-Brown, Aleen Bailey and Caribbean motor racing champion David Summerbell Junior.
He describes the honour of being nominated.
"Chess is the fastest growing sport in the country so I'm really honoured first that it is now being recognised as a sport and then for such a prestigious award," Pitterson said.
The Courtney Walsh Award for Excellence will be presented at a ceremony next Wednesday.
Pitterson recently returned from the chess Olympiad in Russia, where he distinguished himself by finishing as the top player from the region.
