Player with Jamaican descent drafted to WNBA

Aaliyah Edwards who is of Jamaican descent, was the 6th overall pick on Monday night when US Women's College basketball superstar Caitlin Clark was picked up as the first overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft.  

Edwards, a 21 year old forward from the University of Connecticut, was selected by the Washington Mystics.

Edwards whose father is the former Jamaica College athlete Stanford Edwards, averaged 17.6 points, 9.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.7 steals per game with the "Huskies" this season,

Edwards has been a member of the Canadian senior national team since she was 16 years old and was the youngest member of the team during her Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020.

meanwhile, clarke who is considered one of the greatest collegiate players of all time, was picked up by the indiana fever.

She is the all-time leading scorer across men and women's college basketball, racking up the most three-point shots ever in a single season - a record previously held by professional player Steph Curry.
