Wavell Hinds, Captain of the Jamaica team for the upcoming Caribbean Twenty20 Championships in Antigua and Barbuda and Barbados, says support is critical to the country's success at next month's regional tournament.
Former team-mate Darren Powell was critical of Hinds' appointment in a newspaper article published on Sunday where Powell pointed to Hinds' record at this year's Twenty20 championship, to support claims that the newly installed Jamaica Captain is not the best person to lead the local Twenty20 team.
Hinds, who was speaking before the article was published, said he had matured in this format of the game.
"With everything that you do, you learn as you grow and move on and I learnt a lot in my first stint as captain and I have grown a lot as a person and as a cricketer since. The fact that I've been around most of these guys won't make this a hard task and I look forward to leading the team from the front," Hinds said.
He was speaking at the Cricket Clubs Activity Committee Fun Day at the Ultimate Cricket Ground in St. Ann on Saturday.
Among the day's activities were two Twenty20 matches involving past and current Jamaica and West Indies players.
