Powell shows good form as Nitro Series gets underway

Former world record holder Asafa Powell was in sizzling form while sprint legend Usain Bolt only competed in the mixed 4x100m relay at the first stop of the Nitro Athletics Series in Melbourne, Australia. Powell sped to 6.64 sec to win the men's 60m ahead of Kazuma Osteo 6.75 and Kieran Showler-Davis 6.76.

Natasha Morrison had to settle for second in the women's equivalent with a time of 7.49seconds with Kelsey Berryman taking the event in 7.46 seconds.

Former national champion Christine Day and American Kerron Clement combined to post 1:11.76 seconds for the runner-up spot behind Australia 1:11.32 seconds in the mixed 2x300m relay.

Meanwhile, captain of the Bolt All-Stars Usain Bolt along with Asafa Powell, Jenna Prandini and Jeneba Tarmoh took the mixed 4x100m relay in a time of 40.64 seconds, finishing well ahead of Japan 42.36 and Australia 42.45 seconds.
