2018 Commonwealth Games champion, Jamaican Aisha Praught-Leer has weighed in on the controversy surrounding a new pair of track spikes which has seemingly been churning out world record performances.
Earlier this week, World Athletics president Sebastien Coe seemed to shrug off concerns about Nike's new spikes which were worn by Joshua Cheptegei and Letesenbet Gidey who broke the men's 10,000 and women's 5,000m world records within an hour of each other.
Praught-Leer says she too has questioned whether or not the spikes give some athletes an unfair advantage. But, the 31 year old says the sport shouldn't go the route of outlawing the spikes.
Praught-Leer was also a silver medallist in the 1500m at the Pan American Championships in 2019 and a finalist at the World Indoor Championships in 2018 in the three-and three quarter lap event.
