Racing at Caymanas Park is being allowed to continue for the time being and the 10 race programme that was suspended last Sunday is slated for this Saturday. As was the case on Tuesday, the meet will be held without spectators. Champion trainer, Anthony 'Baba' Nunes after winning the feature King's Plate on Tuesday told Radio Jamaica Sports that he was pleased with the steps that the promoting company Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment Limited (SVREL) has been taking to ensure safety and prevent the outbreak of the Covid-19 coronavirus at the track.
Meanwhile, Shane Ellis, president of the Jamaica Jockeys' Guild was hoping the Jamaica Racing Commission (JRC) stewards would have given the jockeys leeway as it relates to their weight, especially given the period of uncertainty and the fact that some riders' eating habits have changed.
However, recently, Richard Longmore, General Manger of the JRC admitted that such a request could not be granted at this time.
In the meantime, the Richard Azan-trained, Peking Cruz is the 5-2 antepost favourite for the Restricted Overnight Allowance contest, that will take centrestage in the absence of a cup or trophy race, going over 5-and-a-half furlongs on Saturday.
9 runners are set to face the starter at 4:55 pm. Post time for the 10 race card is 12:15 p.m. Live coverage of all races will be on Hitz 92 FM.
