National champion Ralford Mullings produced a massive new national record of 72.07 metres to win the men's discus at the Oklahoma Throws Series in the United States on Saturday.
Mullings who was a finalist in the event at the Paris Olympics last year, broke the previous national record of 70.78 metres which was set by Fedric Dacres.
Mullings’ previous personal best for the event was 69.67 metres set last year. Reigning Olympic champion Roje Stona who is awaiting confirmation of his switch of allegiance from Jamaica to Turkiye, was second with a personal best of 70.17 metres. Stona's throw improved on his previous best of 70 metres flat which had thrown to win gold at the Paris Games.
Mullings will now turn his attention to the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan. The World Athletics Championships can be seen live and exclusively on TVJ and TVJ SN with radio coverage on Hitz 92 FM. Our coverage gets underway on Friday, September 12.
