Ramdin the man

Inform West Indies wicket-keeper batsman Denesh Ramdin, the Windies test captain,  says he has not been doing anything differently after hitting a purple patch, scoring two centuries in his last 4 ODI matches.

Ramdin was named man of the match and player of the series following last night's record breaking 91 run win over Bangladesh in the 3rd ODI match in St. Kitts to sweep the series.

Ramdin made 169 and shared in a crucial 258-run third wicket partnership with fellow Trinidadian Darren Bravo who scored 124. It was the 3rd highest partnership in ODI cricket as the Windies recovered from 12-2 to post 338 for 7.

Bangladesh were then restricted to 247 for 8.

Ramdin's knock was the highest by a West Indian wicket-keeper and equals Brian Lara for the third-highest individual innings in one-dayers by a West Indian.

“Right now we are just trying to do the basics right in the nets, hitting a lot of balls in particular areas and working on my weaknesses as well. And once I spend time out in the middle, I believe I will get the total that I want”, Ramdin said.

Only Sir Viv Richards with 189 not out against England in Manchester in 1984 and 181 against Sri-Lanka at the 1987 World Cup  has higher individual scores than Ramdin and Lara.

Meanwhile, as both the Windies and Bangladesh turn their attention to the one off Twenty/20 International on Wednesday in St. Kitts, skipper Darren Sammy wants to continue the winning cycle.

“The pitch has been really good for batting and it was so good to see (Monday) that the bowlers bowled well and restricted them”, Sammy commented

“We are looking to do the same (thing), put our runs on the board and look to put the pressure on the key batters for Bangladesh and exploit their middle order by taking wickets at the top”, he added.
