Rodolph Austin squeezed by English FA

Reggae Boyz Captain Rodolph Austin is one of the first Jamaicans to feel the pinch from the new English Football Association rules trying to limit the number of overseas players in its leagues.

Austin has been refused permission to play in England, with the new rules requiring his country to be ranked inside the top 50, which Jamaica is not at this stage. The former Leeds United player is seeking a new club after being let go at the end of last season.

Sheffield Wednesday had offered the player a move after his Leeds contract ended, with Birmingham, Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough all reportedly interested in his signature.

But social site Kicca reports that the midfielder's hopes of joining Wednesday have been scuppered as the FA seeks to restrict the number of overseas players in English Football.

It is understood Austin has offers to play in Turkey and the USA, although his preferred choice is to remain in the UK where his son was born and where he had two years to stay before qualifying for citizenship.
