Skipper praises Hetmyer and Shepherd as Windies make winning start at T20 World Cup

Voice of West Indies T20 captain Shai Hope

West Indies captain Shai Hope has lauded the Guyanese pair of Shimron Hetmyer and Romario Shepherd for their performances in the team securing their first victory at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup against Scotland in Kolkata on Saturday.

Man of the Match Hetmyer, smashed the quickest half century by a West Indian at the T20 World Cup, top-scoring with 64 from 36 deliveries, as the Windies posted 182-5 in their 20 overs.

Hope says the left-hander has willingly embraced his new role of batting at number three. Meanwhile the captain praised Shepherd for his growth with the ball.

The seamer claimed a career-best 5-20, including a hat-trick, to help dismiss Scotland for 147 in 18.5 overs to seal the win by 35 runs.

The Windies are scheduled to face fellow 2-time champions England on Wednesday at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
