Sports Ministry could take action for Trelawny Stadium

The Minister of Sports has not dismissed the possibility of taking action against those responsible for the greenfield at the Trelawny Multi-Purpose Stadium in Falmouth after the facility failed a CONCACAF inspection for the just concluded Under-17 World Cup Qualifying Tournament held in Montego Bay, St. James.

Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange says the country was embarrassed by someone's failure to effectively carry out their duty and the Ministry will decide on a course of action after it receives a report on the matter.

"I can’t see what explanation could justify the embarrassment that the country faced. I don’t plant grass but people were responsible to ensure that a professional job was done. When you’re embarrassed, you can’t erase that embarrassment although, you can make good (on) what you should do and I think we did so and the team that worked with me did so in getting Jarrett Park ready in no time," she said.

Games scheduled to be held at the Trelawney Multi-Purpose Stadium in Trelawny during the CONCACAF Under-17 Championship had to be played at Jarrett Park and the Catherine Hall Stadium.
