Sunshine Girls score consolation win at Netball World Cup

Captain and goal-shooter Jhaniele Fowler remained dominant in taking Jamaica's Sunshine Girls to another victory at the INF Netball World Cup on Thursday in Liverpool, England. The Sunshine Girls who are out of contention for the semi-finals, registered another consolation win, beating Uganda 61-48 in Group "G" action.

The Jamaicans held quarterly leads of 13-9; 35-20 and 51-34 as they closed out the preliminaries stage two on a winning note.

Fowler was again impressive, shooting at 97.4%, netting 38 goals from 39 attempts while Romelda Aikenplaying as Goal-Attack  had 9 from 11, Shanice Beckford 8 from 9 and Rebekah Robinson 6 from 8.

With hopes of now finishing in the top five, the Sunshine Girls will face another African side, Zimbabwe on Friday at 11:00 am Jamaica time.

Meanwhile, in matches on Thursday involving the four semi-finalists, Australia edged New Zealand 50 - 49, while England beat South Africa 58-47.

Elsewhere, Northern Ireland got by Caribbean neighbours Barbados 46-43, while another Caribbean team, Trinidad and Tobago played out a 43-43 tie with Scotland and Malawi overcame Zimbabwe 49-43.
