Renowned cricket commentator Fazier Mohammed believes poor team selection handicapped the West Indies as they lost the first of four tests to India by an innings and 92 runs inside four days.

The Caribbean men folded for 231 in their second innings after being forced to follow-on at the Sir Vivian Richards Ground in Antigua.

Mohammed says the team was swimming against the tide before a ball was bowled. “Four frontline bowlers with only one of genuine pace in Shannon Gabriel; two medium pacers who try their best and keep it tight but can’t get wickets and a leg spinner who has to bowl long long spells and a debutant who is a batsman who ended up bowling almost 30 overs of part-time off-spin; that cannot be a bowling attack to win any test match,” said Mohammed.

The team failed to score 250 on both occasions and Mohammed says this was another point of genuine concern.

The second test bowls off on Saturday at Sabina Park.
