Two Jamaicans among young Windies batsmen for specialized training in India

Jamaicans Kirk McKenzie and Jordan Johnson are among seven of the region's most promising young batsmen chosen by Cricket West Indies (CWI) to embark on a two week specialized training camp at the Chennai Super Kings Academy in India next month.

McKenzie is one of three contracted franchise players among the seven, with the others being Matthew Nandu and Kevin Wickham.

Current and former West Indies Academy players Teddy Bishop and Jewel Andrew, as well as former West Indies Under-19 representative Ackeem Auguste are the other young players selected.

The seven players will engage in a 2-day match and three white ball fixtures as part of their specialized training at the CSK Academy.

A release from CWI said this significant investment in the future of West Indies cricket, focuses on nurturing the region's elite Under-25 talent pool.

The group which will be accompanied by West Indies Academy head coach Ramesh Subasinghe and assistant coach Rohan Nurse, will depart for India on Friday for the programme which runs from December 1-14.

Upon their return to the Caribbean, the players will serve as ambassadors and share their experiences and insights with territorial coaches.

This initiative marks the first time CWI has deployed contracted academy players for overseas training of this nature. Plans are afoot to make this an annual feature of the CWI  cricket calendar.
