Rural Area Knockout Champions Vere Technical added another title to their cricket collection when they defeated Kingston College in the final of the inaugural SIG High School 20/20 competition on Sunday at Chedwin Park.
Clinical and superb are a few of the words that could describe Vere Technical performance as they lifted the first cup of the Jamaican High School cricket competition.
Vere destroyed Kingston College by 89 runs after electing to bat first Vere posted 185 for 3 wickets in their 20 overs. Rohan Fergurson and Randre Christie laid the foundation for Vere with a 96 runs partnership before the first wicket.
Christie powered to 46 runs from 32 deliveries with eight fours but the backbone of the innings was Ferguson was still at the crease at the end of the 20 overs. He fell 10 runs short of his century, with five fours and four sixes.
Kingston College got off to a good start in their chase of 186 runs.
KC’s Tevon Campbell top scored with a high of 24 could not hold off the fast bowling attack from Vere. After posting 32 runs their wickets began to fall. They could only manage to muster 96 runs for 8 wickets after their 20 overs.
Demus McPherson was the pick of the Vere Technical bowlers as he got 3 for 21 runs.
The men from Clarendon got off to a good start for their 2014 cricket campaign and pocketed the $100,000 winning prize.
