West Indies goes down to India

West Indies made a disappointing start to the defence of the ICC World Twenty/20 title after going down by eight wickets to India in Dhaka on Sunday.

The West Indians scored 129/7 while India replied with 130/3 with two balls to spare.

The Caribbean side made a nervous start after being sent to bat.

Dwayne smith took 29 deliveries to make 11. His opening partnership of 38 with Chris Gayle took 7.5 overs, as the Windies scored 46-1, the lowest after ten overs in the tournament so far.

From there they never recovered and the run out of Gayle for a top-score of 34 did not help.

Lendl Simmons, 27, Marlon Samuels, 18, and Darren Sammy, 11, reached double figures but they all struggled against the spin of Ravindra Jadeja, 3-48 and Amit Mishra, 2-18.

The target of 130 turned out to not much of a challenge for  India despite losing the early wicket of Shikhar Dhawan with just one run on the board. Virat Kohli, 54, and Rohit Sharma, 62 not out, ensured the Indians reached the target with two balls to spare and record their second win from as many matches to be top of the group.
