Windies and Sri Lanka draw second test and series

West Indies extended their record of not losing a home test series to Sri Lanka but couldn't force a result on day 5 of their second test against the visitors in Antigua on Friday as the match and series ended in a tame draw.

The West Indies needed 10 wickets to win while the visitors needed to survive the day to save the match and avoid defeat in the series.

The Sri Lankans resumed the day on 29 without loss and kept the Windies bowlers at bay for almost 30 overs as captain Dimuth Karunaratne 75 and Lahiru Thirimanne 39, put on 101 runs. Oshada Fernando also got among the runs with an unbeaten 66 as Sri Lanka finished on 193-2.

Captain Brathwaite was named Man of the Match for his 211 runs including his 9th test century in the first innings and 85 in the second.

Sri Lankan seamer Suranga Lakmal was given the Man of the Series award after taking 11 wickets at 21.45. Scores: West Indies – 354 & 280-4 declared; Sri Lanka – 258 & 193 – 2.
