Windies close to top 8 ODI ranking

The West Indies can move into the top 8 of the ICC ODI world rankings for the first time in over two years, after gaining valuable ranking points in their home series against England recently. The Windies have been ranked at 9th since 2017 which saw them play qualifiers for the 2019 World Cup last year as they sat outside the automatic top 8 places.

However, the Windies drew 2-2 in their 5-match series against world number one England, which saw their ranking points jump to 76, tied with Sri Lanka in 8th. The Jason Holder led team can overtake the Sri Lankans with victory in their tri-nation series against Ireland and Bangladesh from May 5-13.

The Sri Lankans lost points after being hammered 5-0 in their series against South Africa this month and will be inactive until the start of the World Cup. England remain England top of the standings with India second, New Zealand lie third, South Africa sit 4th. Australia has moved into fifth spot ahead of Pakistan and Bangladesh remain seventh.
