The West Indies went down to their third straight defeat to Bangladesh and in the process lost their tri-nation series final in Ireland by 5 wickets on Friday. The Windies were going well batting first, with Shai Hope's good form continuing but when he and Sunil Ambris were in the middle of laying a strong foundation, rain intervened and brought a halt to the contest.
Hope had played some good attacking shots for 68 off 56 deliveries while Ambris was 59 from 65 at the other end when the rains came with 20.1 overs bowled. The prolonged showers forced the game to be reduced to 24 overs a side and the Windies managed to get to 152-1.
It meant that based on Duckworth Lewis, Bangladesh needed 210 from 24 overs to win. The opening pair of Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar put on 59. Iqbal was dismissed for 18 and Sabbir Rahman went shortly after for a 2-ball duck before Mushfiqur joined Sarkar and the two put on 49 for the third wicket. Sarkar eventually wqent for 66.
Although Mushfiqur and Mohammed Mithun didn't add much runs, Mosadek Hossain with a rear guard effort of 52 not out from just 24 deliveries and Mahmadullah with an unbeaten 19, steered the Bangladeshis to victory at 213-5. Shannon Gabriel and Raymon Riefer took two wickets apiece while there was a wicket for Jamaican Fabian Allen. The Windies will next be in action in a World Cup warm-up match against South Africa on May 26 in Bristol.
