The West Indies women will go into the ICC 50 over World Cup on the back of four straight defeats after going down to India by 81 runs in their second and final warm-up game on Tuesday.
Batting first, India’s women posted 258 all out from their 50 overs. They had lost Shafali Verma for a 2 ball duck but, Smriti Mandhana who top scored with 66 and Deepti Sharma 51, shared in a 117 second wicket stand to steady the innings.
Important contributions of 42 from Yastika Bhatia and 30 from captain Mithali Raj helped the team to a respectable total.
Karishma Ramharack, Cherry-Ann Frazer and Hayley Matthews all had 2 wickets, while Jamaica’s Chinelle Henry had 1-25 from 6 overs.
With 259 runs to get, the West Indies’ innings never really got going as they slipped to 53-4 after losing Kycia Knight for 23 and captain Stafanie Taylor for 8 in quick succession.
Hayley Matthews 44 and Shemaine Campbelle 63, then staged a fightback with a 69 run 5th wicket stand.
However, the Inidan bowlers were too good on the day as they restricted the Caribbean ladies to 177-9. Pooja Vastrakar ended with 3-21.
With this, the Windies have now lost both their warm-up games against Australia and India after losing their last two games in their previous series against South Africa.
The team will now turn their attention to their opening game of the World Cup against host New Zealand on March 4.
