Despite a 2-1 victory over host the Dominican Republic on Sunday, Jamaica's dream of advancing to the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in South Korea next year has ended.
The team failed to advance to the second round of qualifiers in the Caribbean Football Union Championships after finishing third in Group four with six points.
Shamar Nicholson and Nathaniel Adamoluken were on target for the young Reggae Boyz in the 19th and 41st minutes respectively, while the host pulled a goal back from the penalty spot courtesy of Victor Polanco in the 87th minute.
The Jamaicans had earlier survived a penalty scare after Luis Martinez's penalty kick was saved by goalkeeper Jahmali Waite minutes before half-time.
The team had suffered a shock 2-0 defeat at the hands of St Kitts Nevis after a 2-1 victory over Dominica in their first game.
All hopes of advancing in one of the runJner-up spots evaporated after St Kitts defeated Dominica 4-2 to grab the second spot in the group ahead of Jamaica who finished third.
