Some 139 candidates were nominated on Tuesday for the September 3 general election.
Director of Elections Glasspole Brown told Radio Jamaica News that the People's National Party and the Jamaica Labour Party each nominated 63 candidates.
They were joined by 13 independent candidates.
Mr. Brown said the process, which started at 10:00 a.m. and ended at 2:00 p.m., "went fairly smoothly" with "in excess of 90-odd per cent of persons" adhering to the COVID-19 protocols.
The Director of Elections said he was "quite pleased" with the level of compliance with COVID-19 measures at nomination centres and he expects the same level of compliance on election day.
