Barbados to ban single use, petroleum-based plastics

Barbados will be implementing a ban on single-use, petroleum-based plastic packaging, containers and utensils effective January 1.

Kirk Humphrey, Minister of Maritime Affairs and the Blue Economy, has urged retailers to remove the items by the January 1 deadline.

He said so far, most retailers have been complying with the pending legislation, and local bag manufacturers were already producing more environmentally friendly bags.
