Barbados to cut ties with British monarchy and become republic at midnight

Barbados is now preparing to cut ties at midnight with its colonial past and Queen Elizabeth, and will become a republic.
The preparations come a month after Parliament elected its first president in a two-thirds majority vote following a push to become a republic.
The Prince of Wales has flown to Barbados for the handover ceremony in National Heroes Square.
Prince Charles will see a final salute to the British monarchy and watch as the Queen's standard is lowered.
Media reports indicate that singer and Barbadian Ambassador Robyn Fenty, more popularly known as Rihanna, has landed in Barbados.
She is among dignitaries to be present on Monday night for the inauguration of Barbados' first president, Dame Sandra Mason.
After Barbados is declared a republic, three fireworks displays will go off  simultaneously islandwide.
