Minister of Local Government Desmond McKenzie says Tuesday's fire that damaged a house in Beverly Hills was not started by fire from the clearing of adjacent lands.
Residents of the St. Andrew community had claimed the house caught fire after brush was lit on a nearby lot.
But Minister McKenzie says the evidence does not support the claim.
"The fire that took place up in Beverly Hills, based on the report coming out of the Jamaica Fire Brigade that I have seen so far, was not caused by any burning of any property adjacent to the house in question," he said, adding that the brigade is "still carrying out some investigation at a particular location on the premises".
Mr. McKenzie was speaking Wednesday on Radio Jamaica's Beyond the Headlines.
