Court hears more than an hour of secret recordings among alleged One Don Gang members

The Home Circuit Court on Thursday heard more than an hour of secret recordings between the former don-turned-state witness and alleged members of the One Don Gang, in which they expressed loyalty to the criminal enterprise and its alleged leader Andre "Blackman" Bryan.

In the 77-minute recording, the witness is heard speaking with the lone female accused Stephanie Christie and City Puss, who is another of the 33 defendants.

During the conversation, Miss Christie said she was going to pray and fast for Andre "Blackman" Bryan's release and would use $60,000 from her pay to cover the legal expenses of one of the alleged gang members.

At that time, Miss Christie was an employee of the Ministry of Justice.

While criticising disloyal members of the One Don Gang, she described one of  the defendants - whom she referred to as "Sick Head" - as an idiot.

She said Sick Head had telephoned her and requested Andre Bryan's number.

While the recording was being played Miss Christie was seen clutching a notepad and taking notes.

In the recording, she said she was nearly second in command of the One Don Gang and described herself as being fierce and willing to conduct the gang's affairs at any time of the night.

During the conversation, City Puss was disconnected.

The witness reconnected him to the conversation and said he agreed that members of the gang were disloyal.

City Puss, who was in police custody when the conversation took place, hurled expletives and described the prosecution's first witness as a liar and a thief.

While that section of the recording was being played, Mr. Bryan was seen with his hands to his face.

As the audio recording continued, Stephanie Christie could be heard telling City Puss and the former don-turned-state that a police officer told her that a member of the One Don Gang was a witness against convicted gang leader Tesha Miller.

Miss Christie, who is also referred to as "Mumma", said: "Ziggy a eyewitness pon Tesha, a police me get dat from."

Tesha Miller, who was the leader of the Clansman Gang, from which the One Don faction originated, was sentenced in 2020 to 38 years and nine months in prison for the murder of Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) Chairman Douglas Chambers.

'Gang in shambles'

In one of the recordings played in court on Thursday, it was revealed that the One Don Gang was in shambles and needed to recruit young persons.

City Puss was heard saying that being a member of the criminal organisation was a career, as he lamented that some of the members of the One Don Gang were corrupt.

He suggested that the gang needed "Some likkle yute who nuh know nutten," adding: "Wi haffi instruct dem and groom dem...so dem don't get badmind."
