Daryl Vaz travel ban lifted

West Portland Member of Parliament Daryl Vaz was back in on Thursday following his recent corruption charges.

During this morning's hearing the court temporarily varied his bail conditions to allow him to travel overseas.

Mr. Vaz is facing corruption charges along with businessman Bruce Bicknell and Senior Superintendent of Police James Forbes.

However this morning his attorneys applied to the Corporate Area Criminal Court for the conditions of his bail to be temporarily lifted to allow him to go abroad on business.

As a result Senior Magistrate Georgianna Fraser relaxed a stop order which was imposed on him and ordered that his passport be returned to him to facilitate his travel.

Mr. Vaz was ordered to return the passport by October 2 when he returns to the island.

The three were charged after the police accused Mr. Bicknell of attempting to bribe a policeman who was giving him a ticket for exceeding the speed limit.

Mr. Vaz and SSP Forbes were charged after the police claimed they made illegal attempts to have the matter settled.
