Fraud case against Antigua-Barbuda's DPP will proceed, judge rules

By Racquel Porter

Parish Court Judge Venice Blackstock Murray has denied applications to stay proceedings against Antigua and Barbuda's Director of Public Prosecutions, Anthony Armstrong.

The decision was handed down Tuesday morning in the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Court.

Mr. Armstrong's attorney, Hugh Wildman, had indicated that he intends to make submissions to have the case against his client discharged based on insufficient evidence.

Mr. Wildman started his submissions to have the matter stayed on November 16, arguing that the fraud charges against his client are an abuse of process.

He said the case should be stopped on the basis that it took 18 years after a complaint was made against the Jamaican attorney, lack of evidence and prosecutorial misconduct.

Mr. Armstrong is charged with three counts of forgery, three counts of uttering a forged document, conspiracy, and three counts of fraudulent conversion in relation to the sale of properties.
